variations no. 15 - for piano
variations no. 15 is a piece composed solely through the use of a 12-tone row matrix. The aim was to create a 12-tone row that was completely combinatorial, or as Milton Babbitt would call it, 'all-combinatorial'. The idea for the piece is for every part of the music to be serialised, including the notes, rhythms, dynamics and articulations. Each of these were placed into a matrix to create 'rows' for each to then be serialised in the piece.
